Emory's Approach to Fireplace Rock

Here's a composite picture of the small plateau at the end of the North Butte promontory in the bend of the Gila River.  This view looks east toward Emory's campsite of November 8, 1846.  The advance party probably crossed the plateau near the center of the composite.  The Copper Basin Railroad bridge is visible just beyond the plateau at center and the spires are visible on the horizon at left.  The bottom of the river bend is at far right. These pictures were taken from the top of cliff 4 and show parts of cliffs 2, 3, and 5.  Fireplace Rock (cliff 7) is out of the picture to the left.
