Wupatki is a well-known Indian ruin northeast of
Flagstaff, Arizona. To get there just take US 89 north out
of Flagstaff and follow the signs to the Sunset Crater and
Wupatki National Monuments. Most of the ruins are
off-limits but some of the best ones are open to visitors.
As you can see from the map, the ruins are just a few miles from
where Sitgreaves left the Little Colorado at Grand Falls to
travel west toward the north side of the San Francisco Peaks. The
particular ruin in Kern's lithograph is right behind the Wupatki
Visitor's Center and Park Headquarters.
